PRP injections for hair loss are a cutting-edge treatment that utilizes platelet-rich plasma (PRP) derived from the patient’s own blood to stimulate hair growth and improve hair density.
This procedure involves extracting PRP from the patient’s blood, which then undergoes a purification process using a centrifuge to separate the body’s most potent pro-growth proteins and platelets from red and white blood cells. The pro-growth mixture is then injected into the scalp to promote the growth of thicker, healthier hair follicles.
Ideal candidates for PRP injections for hair loss are individuals experiencing hair thinning, hair loss, or a receding hairline.
Candidates should have sufficient hair follicles present in the treatment area and realistic expectations for the outcome of the procedure.
The ideal candidate should understand that similar to exercising a muscle, if you do not take care of a treated area, your results can diminish. Repeat treatments as well as follow up visits are necessary to ensure ideal results. Sometimes HavenMD staff will also suggest dietary supplementations to support hair follicle thickness and growth.
PRP injections for hair loss stimulates hair follicle growth and improves hair density for thicker, fuller-looking hair. The procedure is a non-surgical approach with minimal downtime and natural-looking results.
It is a safe and effective treatment using the patient’s own blood components, so there is no risk of viral transmission from other products. Some practices use other patients’ PRP to inject into the hair for hair loss treatments– HavenMD does not participate in this practice. The procedure typically takes under an hour, with no special preparation required. Numbing medication prior to the injection takes 30 minutes.
The procedure takes about 20-30 minutes. Some things you can do to prepare for your PRP injection treatment for hair loss are to avoid medications that stop platelets from working, such as Aspirin, Aleve, and Ibuprofen/Motrin for 2 days prior, and to avoid drinking more than one alcoholic beverage the night before your injectable treatment. Taking arnica tablets ahead of your treatment will reduce bruising.
On the day of your procedure, your provider will review any allergies, active issues that will change your treatment pattern, and any potential contraindications to your PRP hair loss treatment. Your provider will also give you an estimated pricing for your treatment plan.
After treatment, your provider may ask you not to wash your treated area for 24-36 hours. Following this, your provider may ask you to take a hot shower to help improve perfusion to the treated area prior to a gentle shampoo cleanse of the treated area.
Patients can resume normal activities immediately afterward. Care should be taken not to flatten recently injected areas, and not to place dirty objects near recently injected areas (such as dirty pillowcases when sleeping at night).
